just like in the books

so the birds are chirping and the squirrels are digging the ground for their lost nuts. the sun is shining and.. well it's spring time! it's really like what the authors describe in their books. and all this while i thought that they had such beautiful imagination and expansive vocabulary.

remember a couple of weeks ago i was fretting about my english essay due?? well.. it's happening again!! i have an english research paper to complete. it's not due for another two weeks but i have a conference with my english prof tomorrow. and guess what?? you guessed it! i have no topic!! argg.. andre suggested i do an introduction to singapore, seeing as to how i'm practically the only singaporean in school. i'm just afraid that i either have too much to write, or not enough to fill eight to ten pages. arggg.. but you see, i was desparate. sooo..

i took a walk to the public library. wanna know why i didn't go to my school library?? cos i walked in, didn't see any books and didn't know where to go from there to look for the books i needed. it's a multi-floor library but the floor plan really doesn't help much. this is probably the first library that i didn't want to go to. which is a pretty rare thing for me. (here's a something about me most people don't know. i loved the library when i was younger. when we go out to eat, my bro and i would always run up to the library while waiting for the food to come. then when the food did come, our parents would give us missed calls to tell us that the food's here.) so that's why i had to take the SUPER LONG WALK to the public library.

i was surprised to find a couple of books on singapore. but they're all pretty outdated. 1984-1990. the travel guides were more recent. in the 2000s. but we were always lumped with another country. like malaysia and burneo. you know whenever we look for a travel guide, we're always looking for books on other countries. we totally walk past those on singapore. i mean what else do we need to know about a country we live in right? but have you ever read what other people from other countries have to say about our country? it's really pretty interesting. so i ended up borrowing eight books regarding singapore. that's the minimum number of sources (non-internet) that we need for the paper. EIGHT books!!

so i'm lugging eight books home with me. i passed by churchills. the grocer that my mom frequents when my dad was studying here. i decided to buy some stuff home. then i dropped by the rental shop next door and picked up a couple of dvds for the weekend. so by the time i was done, you could imagine the amount of things i was carrying.

nevermind. i'm a strong girl. i can manage.

and then it started to rain..

no fear! i had my umbrella with me. so i pulled out my brolly and gosh did it start getting heavy. both the rain and the load i was carrying. and don't forget, it was a loooonnng walk home. so here i was walking in the rain when a car drives past real quick, suddenly breaks and then backs up. the dude wind down his window and called out to me,

"hey do you need a lift?"
i was two streets from home so i told him, "i'm fine but thank you very much!"
"you sure?"
"yeah. i'm good."
"alright you take care and be careful."
"you too!"
he drives off.

ain't that sweet? =) it really had me smiling the whole way home. it was just like in the books! i got home safe and dry. tired but safe and dry.

have you ever wanted something so bad you could almost taste it? have you ever wanted to voice out your opinions cos you know what you have to say will really benefit others but never really knew if it was appropriate? today at training, i really really wanted to suggest some new methods of coaching to the coach cos obviously her methods ain't working. i really wanted to just tell her, "sit back and watch. i'll show you how it's done." but i felt if i said anything, no matter how tactfully i put it, it would still seem a little inappropriate. i know if my folks see this, they're gonna tell me to just voice out what i have to say no matter what. but i just couldn't say anything. i figured this is the non competitive group so it wasn't really that important. but when the same thing happened with the competitive girls, i really couldn't hold it in anymore. thank goodness one of the coaches asked me if i had anything to say cos she wasn't getting through to them. my chance to finally say something! so i told them a couple of more important things they could work on. it helped. then the coach mentioned that this saturday the girls were having a meet this saturday (this really shocked me cos i felt they weren't ready at all) and she couldn't be present cos she had to work. so i volunteered my services. she accepted. so this saturday is my day to do my thing and prove my worth to the other coaches. here's hoping!

here's to all those who have a dream. never abandon it.
