This week's O-chem lab was probably the most fun one I've ever had and not just because it was to be the last O-chem lab of the year (YES! booyah! No more late night efforts to complete pre-labs and scribble lab reports!). We had to synthesis isopentyl acetate, aka banana oil. Why banana oil? Well, simply because it smells like bananas. So the aroma of a million bananas began overtaking the whole lab and our 'trusty' ventilation system decided to pick today to throw a tantrum. As much as I adore the smell of bananas, it was a little suffocating.
Then, good ol' Alex, trying to complete protocool within an hour and a half, while rushing through his experiment, spilled his sample all over the hot plate so our area started smelling like.. goreng pisang! at first it was real yummy, then it got a whole lot of nasty. We had to all walk away and let that air clear up first (door were slamming shut and we all got trapped in the lab at this moment too because when the ventilation system in the lab shut off, it messed up with the air outside, so the difference in pressure was sooo great that it took two guys to try and push the door open).
Goreng pisang, reminds me of when I used to live at Gilman Heights. There was a man who used to come round door to door and sell snacks and his tastiest one would always be goreng pisang. Hot and crispy. I like living at Gilman Heights. One of my favourite-est house yet. Many good memories.
I made a mistake while counting down the days and thought I had only one more week of classes left before the finals and then.. NYC! But no, it was actually TWO weeks fo classes before the finals. So that was kind of a damper. Never mind though, this week's almost over. new york, new york, New York , New York, NEW YORK, NEW YORK!!! I can't wait! To see my family, to go shopping, to eat real food! Of all the months of waiting, the last two weeks is always most definitely the hardest to endure.
P.S. I love you 3 years and counting.. 12/21/07
